On Thursday 6th March, World Book Day, Deanwood Primary School proudly opened Mr Slack's Reading Pavilion and Garden, a heartfelt tribute to Assistant Head and English Lead Ollie Slack, who passed away in early 2023, but whose passion for reading and storytelling continues to inspire pupils and staff alike. Made possible through the generosity of the Deanwood and The Howard Academy Trust community, this beautiful space will be a place of joy, imagination, and learning for years to come. A touching moment saw Mr Slack's daughter, Willow, cut the ribbon, marking the start of a new chapter where stories will continue to be cherished. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. A truly fitting way to honour Mr Slack's #worldbookday2025 https://www.kentonline.co.uk/medway/news/we-know-he-ll-be-looking-down-smiling-outdoor-library-ope-321351/?fbclid=IwY2xjawI_0aFleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHU_mTLYhrTCqkhOsqnYsEknUFBRHgUrl0z0nccF4kYJFsEQhBw2G8jorMg_aem_eG3zCKTIuH5zkgID17IePQ #TheHowardAcademyTrust #LegacyOfReading #TrustTHAT #TrustSchools #TeachingKent #TeachingCommunity #WorldBookDay

On Monday, 24th February, we attended the Medway Healthy Workplaces Celebration Event at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, where businesses and trusts that had achieved a workplace award since 2024 were recognised. We were honoured to receive our award from Councillor Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Adult Services and Public Health, who congratulated us on our commitment to fulfilling our workplace wellbeing pledges. The Trust was also commended for sharing best practices with other trusts in Medway and for actively promoting the Medway Healthy Workplaces initiative. Our Platinum Award, achieved in June 2024, reflects our continuous improvement in staff health and wellbeing and our role as mentors within the education sector. The assessment panel highlighted our strong connections with other organisations and our significant contribution to enhancing workplace wellbeing across education. The Howard Academy Trust CEO, Owen McColgan, said: "Receiving the Platinum Award is a testament to our collective commitment to wellbeing. At The Howard Academy Trust, we believe that a supportive environment is foundational to the success of both our staff and students. This recognition inspires us to continue prioritising health and well-being in all our endeavours." A reassessment will take place on 6th June 2026, and we remain committed to evaluating and enhancing our wellbeing offer, ensuring a lasting impact for all our staff. A special thank you to Medway Healthy Workplaces and to Michelle S., Health and Wellbeing Project Officer, for their invaluable support and guidance in helping us achieve this award.
